Nitrous oxide (N2O2), otherwise known as laughing gas, is a sweet-smelling gas administered through a mask that fits snugly over your nose. We deter cross-contamination and maintain sanitary conditions. Nitrous oxide is also called conscious sedation because it causes intense relaxation, but patients can continue to communicate with the doctor. Nitrous oxide is quick to act, and the effects subside quickly, so you can return to normal daily activities following the treatment. The use of nitrous oxide decreases sensitivity to pain and can be combined with local anesthetic, an injection that creates numbness at the site of treatment. Nitrous oxide can be administered before an injection. 

If the patient requests to be placed under deeper sedation, Staffordshire Dental Group P.A. can make arrangements for a board-certified anesthesiologist to come to our office and place the patient under anesthesia while the procedure is being performed.
